I love Onion Rings to be honest I could eat them by the truckload. I decided I would make my own in the air fryer and after a couple of attempts to get the right consistency and cooking times, I am glad to say these are perfect!
You can change out some of the ingredients to suit your tastes for me and the family these are perfect! The best accompaniment for these beautiful onion rings is Tomato Ketchup always number one. But a close second is Mayonnaise and Sweet Chilli Sauce combined into the perfect dip!
Crispy and delicious, air fryer onion rings are the perfect side dish or snack. These golden-brown rings of goodness are cooked in an air fryer for a fraction of the time and fat content of traditional deep fried varieties.
Ready in just 18 minutes, these tender onions are coated in delicious bread crumbs before being tossed into the air fryer to create that crunchy texture everyone loves. Enjoy them as an appetizer or side dish with your favorite dipping sauces, like ranch dressing or barbecue sauce!
Slice the end off of each Onion, and then peel the outer skin off. Carefully cut each Onion into 1/2″ circular portions.
Note: the “layers” that comprise each Onion portion (like the pattern in a tree trunk). We will be using two Onion “Layers” for each Onion Ring. Using your fingers, carefully press the centre portion of each Onion away from two of the Onion Layers, to form a hollow Ring. Repeat with each portion of the Onion until no more circles remain, and then continue until all the onions are in rings.
Add all of the Wet Mix ingredients to a medium bowl and mix well until fully combined.
Add all of the Dry Mix ingredients to a separate bowl and mix well. Then, divide the Dry Mix evenly into two separate bowls. (The Dry Mix gets a little “sticky” with time, and using 2 bowls prevents the mixture from becoming unusable.)
Switch on your air fryer and allow it to pre heat for around 3 minutes at 180°C (356°F).
Carefully dip each Onion Ring into the Wet Mix, then transfer to the dry mix and coat evenly with breadcrumbs. Place into your air fryer safe liner, or into the basket of your Air Fryer if you aren't using one. Repeat with the remaining Onion Rings.
Cook you Onion Rings for 8-10 minutes at 180°C (356°F). If your air fryer is on the smaller side you should cook the Onion Rings in a few batches, so the basket doesn't become overcrowded.
Serve while warm with your favourite sauce and enjoy!
We hope you enjoy these crispy onion rings as much as we do!
